ELAC 
 The English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC) is comprised of parents, community members, and school staff. The ELAC recommends ideas for school improvement to meet the needs of English Language Learners.  The meetings will be about 30 minutes in length and meet 4 times a year.
Semester 1/Fall Meetings Information 
Meeting 1: Sept. 6, 2023 held in E-10 (5:00-5:30) 
The first meeting is always held on the Back to School nights for parents. See student flyer for time/details. The purpose of this meeting is to connect EL parents with site resources and to review student transcripts regarding students' academic progress
as they enter the current school year. This is an informal, personal time to meet with the site EL Coordinator to understand how to best support their student during high school. Parents are encouraged to ask questions about their students, high school and course expectations, and graduation requirements. 
Meeting 2: Nov. 8, 2023 from 7:15-8:15 (zoom link
This meeting typically takes place in Nov.-Dec. Please see the agenda for meeting details. The meeting will help parents understand the attendance policies of GUHSD and the process for which they need to follow if their child is absent from school. 
 
 
Semester 2/Spring Meeting Information 
Meeting 3: Jan. 30, 2024 from 7:15-8:15 (zoom link
This meeting is the annual district celebration of reclassification for students who have met the reclassification requirements. The meeting date will be determined by the EL Learner District Office. Look for a personal invitation to be delivered through your
child in the Spring once the date is set. An email will also be sent through Infinite Campus.
Meeting 4: April 19, 2024 from 7:15-8:15  (zoom link
This meeting will be a final overview of your student's academic progress for the year they are completing. This is an opportunity to meet with a counselor to understand the individual student's graduation plan and postsecondary plans. We will also discuss data from the ELPAC and our school-wide EL data.

Reclassification 
 

Reclassification 
 

Reclassification is the process that determines whether an English Learner should be reclassified as Fluent English Proficient (R-FEP). Reclassification relies on evidence demonstrating that the student has a level of English proficiency comparable to that of average native speakers of English in the district and is achieving and sustaining a level of academic achievement with students whose native language is English. District reclassification policies and procedures are aligned with California Department of Education guidelines. Multiple criteria are utilized to establish that the student is ready to be reclassified.
