The Susan Arthur Library at West Hills High School

Library Media Teacher-Susan Schreiber

Library Technician-Clara Lizarraga

The Susan Arthur Library is a modern, student-centered facility providing current research materials and state-of-the-art technology for West Hills High School students and staff. There are approximately 29,000 items in our print collection and students may access these materials using four dedicated online catalogs.

We encourage our students to become life-long readers and purchase the most popular teen-appropriate fiction and nonfiction books. Thirty-seven networked computer workstations provide Internet access for our students. They learn about information literacy by developing effective strategies for research using a variety of library media resources.

The District network gives students access to various research sources including NetTrekker, CQ Researcher, ELibrary, Culture Grams, Worldbook Online, Coin3, and a variety of career-based research sites. Students may save their work to a District-supported online storage system called ebackpack. All District-supported resource tools may be accessed from home.

The library facility has a multimedia room that enables students to work on video editing projects for their core education classes. Students have access to state-of-the-art equipment and programs designed to enhance their academic experience.

The Library Media Center is staffed with a credentialed library media teacher and a library technician. We continue to meet student needs by providing extended library hours opening before first period and closing at 3:30.

In the near future, we will formally name our library The Susan Arthur Library in honor of our recently retired, founding librarian, Susan Arthur. The date and time will be announced.

Please contact Susan Schreiber at 619 956-0461 with any questions or concerns.
