|
Basic Clothing (Grades 9-12)Students learn the care and operation of sewing machines and equipment, the properties and weaves of fabrics (man made and natural fibers), and to follow basic pattern instructions.
Intermediate Clothing 2 (Grades 9-12)This course provides a continuation of the development of basic skills in garment selection and construction with emphasis in pattern alterations and more detailed construction processes. Prerequisite: Basic Clothing.
Advanced Clothing 3 (Grades 10-12)This course provides an extension in the principles of garment construction. Units of study include wearable art, tailoring techniques, historical periods of fashion, and creative pattern designs. Prerequisite: Intermediate Clothing.
Wardrobe Construction (Grades 10-12)Continuing the development of skills learned in clothing, the students will coordinate a complete wardrobe, incorporating styles, pattern, colors, and fabrics. Prerequisite: Advanced Clothing.
Clothing Seminar (Grades 11-12)An independent study in advanced clothing techniques. Requirements for credit will be established between teacher and student on a contract basis.
Quilting 1 & Quilting 2 (Grades 10-12)This is a two-semester course in which the students investigate art and the techniques of quilting. Students will explore the principles of composition and the elements of design using various art mediums. These units will be taught sequentially, culminating in a quilt assignment that reflects each unit. The students will also study the historical and cultural impact of the quilting art form on our society.
Child Development 1/ 2 (Grades 10-12)A two-semester course, this class provides a basic understanding of family planning, prenatal development and care, childbirth, the development of the child as an infant, and the social, physical, and emotional growth of children. Students will obtain experience guiding preschool age children and explore career opportunities as related to child development. NOTE: An articulation agreement is in place with Grossmont & Cuyamaca Community Colleges for the Child Development class. Students who earn an A or a B for both semesters will also earn 3 units college credit for CD124.
Single Survival 1/ 2 (Grades 11-12)A two-semester course in which students develop skills that will meet their needs of survival in the areas of foods, clothing, and other related areas. Second semester allows students to continue their exploration of basic living skills such as meal planning and food preparation, housing alternatives, and budgeting finances.
