Course Description
Survey of art history from prehistoric to modern. With a focus on context (connecting artwork to its time in history) students will study important paintings, sculpture, and architecture. The bulk of the class is structured to have students discuss the images through teacher presented slide lectures.
Instructional Goals
- Students will get a stronger understanding of world history throught the arts.
- Students will understand how the use of images can promote spirituality, power and aesthetics.
- Students will be able to better articulate the elements of their visual world.
- Students will develop critical thinking skills.
- Students will increase cultural awareness.
Prerequisites
Required
- "B" average or above
- Sophmore or above
Suggested
- World history or European history
- Junior or Senior
- Interest in the visual arts Homework:
Level and Type of Work
Reading, drawing, and taking notes on 10 images from the textbook.
Approximately 45 to 60 minutes a night.
Typical Classwork:
Discussion and supplimenting notes on studied images.
Testing:
Simular to AP Testing format: Slide ID, multiple choice, short answer, long answer.

Committment to doing necessary homework, study hard for exams, and attend class.
