Course Description
The study of European history since 1450 introduces students to cultural, economic, political, and social developments that played a fundamental role in shaping the world in which they live. Without this knowledge, we would lack the context for understanding the development of contemporary institutions, the role of continuity and change in present-day society and politics, and the evolution of current forms of artistic expression and intellectual discourse.

Instructional Goals
In addition to providing a basic narrative of events and movements, the goals of the AP program in European History are to develop (a) an understanding of some of the principal themes in modern European History, (b) an ability to analyze historical evidence and historical interpretation, and (c) an ability to express historical understanding in writing.

Prerequisites
  • Junior and seniors only
  • C or higher in AP World History
  • B or higher in CP World History
Level and Types of Work
To take this course, students should be academic-minded with an ability to self regulate.  There will be textbook readings, weekly assignments, online discussions, and online collaboration.  As an Advanced Placement course delivered in an online manner, students must be motivated and will to immerse themselves into an academic online environment.

What will a student have to do to be successful in this AP level class?
Taking an online class requires even more self-organization and motivation than a regular class.  Students will be expected to check the class web site on a daily basis, participate in online discussions, take online quizzes, and submit work digitally on a weekly basis.  Occasional face-to-face meetings will be scheduled after school for logistical and testing purposes.  Office hours, both virtual and physical, will be available to help students.

Why should you take AP European History?
