Course Description
This course will prepare students to take the AP French exam in May. Students will continue to hone their French language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Instructional Goals
Students will be challenged and motivated to go further in their study of French, and are expected to use French exclusively in the classroom. Because this class is held in conjunction with 3rd and or 4th year French, students will be required to do some independent study outside of class. This could be through reading magazines and books, watching videos with the French language track on, listening to French radio, and writing journals and compositions. It is expected that students will commit to attending at least twenty hours of tutoring sessions offered after school.
Prerequisites
3rd Year Honors French with a B- or better.
Level and Type of Work
Students must commit to using French at all times. Compositions will be assigned monthly during the first semester; twice monthly during the second semester. Students will need to be immersed in French through a variety of modalities. Every possible opportunity to "live in French" should be taken.
What will a student HAVE to do to be successful in this AP level class?
The successful student will make a commitment to being immersed in French for the school year, participate in class, and be able to work independently.
Why should you take AP French?
By passing the AP French exam, many colleges will allow students to bypass introductory levels and go directly to upper division courses required for a major in French. Also students will acquire skills to be able to communicate in our global society.
