Electronic Device Policy PDF Print E-mail
The sole purpose for allowing students to have cell phones is for use during an actual school lockdown or emergency.  Cell phones are allowed on campus, and it is acceptable for students to use them during lunch, but they must remain turned off and put away at all other times.  Students will not be given permission to leave class to return or answer a cell phone call. Students may not have cell phones out during class or passing periods for checking time, calculating, picture taking, text messaging, incoming/outgoing calls, or for any other reason.

Devices capable of capturing, transmitting, or storing images or recordings may not be operated in restrooms, dressing rooms, or other areas where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy.

To protect personal property and avoid disruptions to the learning environment, all other electronic devices are not allowed on campus during school hours.  This includes any audio or video devices such as headphones, iPods, MP3/MP4 and CD players, games, etc.

Consequences:
  • First offense - Device will be confiscated, the offense will be recorded with the Assistant Principal, and device will be returned to the student at the end of the day.
  • Second offense - Device will be confiscated, the offense will be recorded, and the device must be picked up by a parent.  Any offense after the first will be considered an act of defiance.
  • Third offense - Device will be confiscated, student may receive a one-day suspension, will be placed on a behavior contract, and the device must be picked up by a parent and the device may not be brought to school for the remainder of the school year. If a parent does not retrieve a given electronic device, the device will be held by the assistant principal until the end of the semester.
West Hills High School or the Grossmont Union High School District is not responsible for confiscated items, theft or damage to any personal electronic devices.
