The Path to High School Graduation and Beyond - 9th Grade Edition

We want to make sure you know what to focus on as you prepare for high school. Below is an action plan that families can follow to help set students up for any opportunities they may want after graduation. We will revisit this plan each year, but we want you to start high school feeling informed, confident, and ready to make the right choices now!

What you should be doing right now…

  • Use a calendar to keep track of assignments and deadlines. Staying organized helps!

  • Attend tutorials and practice effective time management and study skills to maintain strong grades. Every class counts!

  • Get involved in extracurricular activities, clubs, leadership roles, and community service. These experiences strengthen college and scholarship applications—and they help make your high school experience fun! Students involved in school activities are proven to be more successful.

  • Attend our district’s Future Fest College and Career Fair in the Spring to explore different colleges and careers.

  • Create a four-year educational plan to help you reach your post-high-school goals. Counselors will support this process through California Colleges (CCGI).

In the Spring...

  • Choose next year’s classes with a career goal in mind.
    • If you have four-year college eligibility in mind. Consider including Biology, a World Language, and/or a Fine Art to begin fulfilling typical college admission requirements.
    • If you are considering a trade or apprenticeship or would like to start exploring different professions, consider our pathways such as Construction, Manufacturing, Sports Medicine, Education or Engineering.

Freshman year is exciting—sometimes even a little nerve-wracking—but it’s also a fresh start and an important step toward your future. Come ready to have fun, learn a lot, grow as a person, and begin your journey as a young adult.
